Careers Information
Work Experience
Year 11-13
The Careers Centre will organize work exploration placements for students. These may be for 1 to 5 days or, in some cases, several hours per week as part of a student’s programme. Every student going on work experience will receive a report from their employer that will comment on such things as punctuality, attendance, appearance, politeness, ability to understand instructions, attitude, initiative and ability to work without supervision.

STAR Courses
Year 11 – 13
These are available to students at the discretion of the Head of Department, Deans or Careers/Gateway Coordinator. These courses are varied in subjects and offered through many Tertiary providers. Examples of available course include chef, travel and tourism, automotive engineering, reception, childcare, hairdressing.

Careers Workshops – Lunchtime
Lunchtime workshops will be scheduled throughout the year to assist with CV preparation, Interviewing techniques, Leadership applications (school), Scholarship application and research, Careers research, Drivers License testing.
Criteria: A genuine and positive attitude to learn.
Careers Info sessions – Lunchtime
Careers experts and visitors to present and talk to students about life beyond school.
Criteria: A genuine and positive attitude to learn.
Tertiary Tours
Visits to universities, polytechnics and private training establishments.
Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology CPIT Have a Go Day!
A whole day of careers from a tertiary perspective. CPIT offer a full day of career activities, entertainment and lunch. Careers choices are identified by selected by students and the Careers coordinator.
Criteria: Selection is based on the students who have a career direction and have accessed the Careers Centre and by the Senior Dean.
Life Skills Class (Every Wed)
Training providers, budget advisory, banks, studylink and various youth/Govt agencies are scheduled throughout the year to present to the year 13 students.
