Snow Days

posted 20 Nov 2011 15:04 by Bruce Henley

Dear Parents and Students

I am pleased to announce that CCC will be open tomorrow (Thursday) at the usual time for all students and staff. It has been a long few days but now we must get back on track.

As it will still be very cold tomorrow we will allow students to wear mufti - warm jackets, scarves, hats and water proof footwear.  Staff members have cleared paths but with the melting snow it is likely to be quite wet underfoot.  If the cold weather continues on Friday we will allow mufti as well.

As far as I am aware normal Metro buses will operate tomorrow.

If there are changes to the above, they will be on the website tomorrow morning.

Travel safely and take care.

God bless

Welcome to Marian College

posted 16 Aug 2011 22:25 by Bruce Henley

Dear Parents, kia ora tatou

We look forward to sharing our site and facilities with Marian College next year.  Our Cathedral College community is pleased to welcome their pupils and staff to 'our' place and I am sure both colleges will  enjoy a strong working relationship over the next few years.

There is much preparatory work to be done to ensure both colleges are up and running, ready for day one next year, but with good collaborative planning, this will happen. Details of teaching blocks and rooms to be used for each college as well as timetable and bell time considerations will be progressively released as decisions are made.

We are all happy to  warmly welcome Ms Anna Heffernan, her teaching and support staff and the girls of Marian College.

Return to CCC

posted 28 Jul 2011 19:24 by Bruce Henley

Dear Parents

Kia ora tatou

It is with great pleasure that I announce that we will return to our site in Ferry Road at the beginning of term 3 on August 01.

This is fantastic news for our whole community and I am sure will be greeted with much relief by you all.  There is much to do and although we cannot use our administration block, there are enough rooms for us to be fully functioning as a school. Over the next few weeks a large amount of planning and work needs to be done to make a successful start to term 3.

As a consequence of our shift back we have made the following arrangements;

  1. School will finish this term on Thursday 14 Jul at the usual time 5.30pm.
  1. There is NO school on Friday 15 Jul as teachers will be shifting back to CCC
  1. On the first day of term 3 Mon Aug 01, there will be NO school as teachers will be setting up classrooms.
  1. On Tuesday 02 August, school for Yr 7 & 8, 11, 12 and 13.
  1. On Wednesday 03 August school for everyone.  There will be a Powhiri at 9am – you are most welcome to attend.

During each day in the holidays, we plan to have D4 open as a study space for our senior         students - on a voluntary basis.

We intend to have a parents’ meeting next Wednesday 13 July in the CCC gym Ferry Road at 6.30pm to explain and answer any questions about our move back, including start times for students and bus services to CCC.  Please come along – this will also double as a second information evening for prospective 2012 students.

We are excited to be coming home to Ferry Road and will work hard to ensure a smooth transition from STC to CCC.

God bless

Financial Help

posted 17 May 2011 22:23 by Bruce Henley

We would like to pass on information to you regarding two grants schemes offering to help families suffering financial hardship.

VARIETY SEEKS CHRISTCHURCH CHILDREN TO HELP

Variety is seeking more applications from families who need financial assistance following the earthquake.

Variety is there for children in all sorts of challenging circumstances and has been working in the Christchurch community for many years supporting sick, disabled and disadvantaged children. Some examples of things that we are funding from our earthquake appeal include replacing mobility and medical equipment for children with special needs, providing toys or equipment for those who suffered great loss, financial help with school or sports fees, or helping children to cope with loss.

If you and your family require help, or know of any children that do, please visit www.variety.org.nz <http://www.variety.org.nz/> or telephone 09 520 4111 to complete an application for funding.

OfficeMax Max e Grants Small Grants Programme

Max e Grants is a small grants program that enables education providers to nominate children for assistance.

Visit www.maxegrants..co.nz <http://www.maxegrants.co.nz>   for more information around the programme and further details on how to apply.

Nominations are only accepted from education providers, so if you think that you may qualify for assistance under this scheme, please contact me at SHARP so that we can help you with this.

Family Week 21 - 29 May

SHARP children will this week be bringing home fliers regarding the Family Expo on Saturday 21 May. For details on this and all free Family Week events at Spreydon Baptist Church, visit our website www.spreydon.org.nz <http://www.spreydon.org.nz>.

Term 2 Start

posted 16 May 2011 17:56 by Bruce Henley

Term 2 Start        Monday 02 May

Kia ora Tatou - Welcome back everyone to Term 2

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays with your families, are refreshed and ready for another busy term.  We all certainly needed a good break.

This term we continue our school at STC and we all look forward to being together again. Progress on our school site at CCC is continuing. However some problems beyond our control have been encountered with work on the Cathedral and repairs to some of our teaching blocks. We remain positive about returning to our site as soon as we can and we will keep you informed on progress.

Thank you for your support and understanding. I appreciate that for many of you, times have been very hard. The Red Cross has informed me that site-shifted schools such as ours are eligible for some funding for families.  I will have more details of this later. In the meantime, we need to update your contact details. All students will bring home a form to be completed and returned.

PLEASE NOTE we intend to start pastoral group each day at 12.50pm during this winter term. This is to prevent students standing around on cold and possibly wet mornings.  There will be no change to buses leaving time.

We welcome Emma Costello who will be taking over Ms Simons classes and Troy Surch will continue with Mrs O'Carroll's classes.

We are now taking enrolments for 2012.  As we are unable, at this stage, to organise an open day, please contact me at STC anytime between 11am and 5.30pm - 03 9821690, or for any urgent call 021 861974. Please also note you are welcome to come in to STC during the above hours to meet with me - please make an appointment with the school office.

Take care everyone. We look forward to seeing you all again. God Bless
