Bishop Lyons Speech & Debating Competition

During last weekend, Alice Sparks, Emma Cameron, Rose Crean, Katie McMahon, Nadia Roza-Scott, Tarelle Jefferys, Jerome Lao, Claire Barlin, Hanna Corre and Samuel Hanada participated in the annual Bishop Lyons public speaking competition. This year the competition was held at Roncalli College, a Catholic secondary school in Timaru. They had to travel down to Timaru and stay together as a team from Friday until Sunday. Overall, the team was very successful and they received many positive comments from students and teachers of other schools on their success and overall behaviour during the weekend. A highlight of the competition was when the Cathedral College debating team, Emma, Rose and Katie, placed first in their division. This is the first time Catholic Cathedral College has won the Bishop Lyons debating since 1996, so it is a massive achievement and we are all extremely proud of the girls! The team would like to sincerely thank all of the teachers and coaches who prepared them so well for Bishop Lyons this year.

Congratulations to the following students – they have all done the college proud!!

Junior Prepared Speech - Nadia Rosa Scott 3rd

Senior Prepared Speech - Alice Sparks 3rd

Debating team - Rose Crean, Emma Cameron, Katie McMahon 1st
