Last Friday evening two groups from senior Drama classes travelled to Lincoln to compete in the annual Selwyn Dramafest.
Both groups performed original devised pieces, blowing away the audience with their attention to detail and ability to embody the work of the theorists they had been studying in class.
The year eleven group included Mariane Jolejole, Liam Davidson, Rueben Lefebvre and Tom Zou. Their piece bravely explored the unsettling realities of the Christchurch earthquakes, and the long term effect it has on the family. They took out the award for Best Dramatic Pace.
The year twelve group included Jacinta Muir, Joshua McPherson-Davidson and Joshua Derwahl. This original piece explored the realities of the Pike River mining disaster, and similarly the effect that it had on the people of Aotearoa. This piece required intense focus and the ability to maintain connection with the audience. This piece was duly awarded Best Overall Devised Piece, Most powerful Message and the Overall Winner!
The year twelve group were also given one on one feedback from the judges, comments below. We are extremely proud our all of the students involved and the students who came to support their talented peers.
“Most powerful message - physicalisation was astounding, the loss without using words was a very powerful message. Winner over all!!
Level of intensity and pure focus. A real step above.”
