Tēnā Koe, Talofa lava, Mālō ē lelei, Kumusta and warm Catholic Cathedral College greetings

If you are new to Christchurch or visiting this website for the first time, Catholic Cathedral College offers an inclusive education that combines Catholic faith with academic excellence to young people from Years 7 to 13. Being the only Catholic co-educational College in Christchurch we are not restricted by zones and can accept enrolments from across the city and surrounds. We provide a quality and future focussed education that develops a love of learning in our rangatahi (young people).

Catholic Cathedral College was established in 1987, following the amalgamation of two Colleges that had a long history on this important site.  Sacred Heart College was founded by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions in 1868, and the Marist Brothers arrived in 1888 to start what was to become Xavier College. It is an honour to be able to carry on the mission of the College founders, Euphrasie Barbier and Marcellin Champagnat; to enable the children of Catholic families to be educated in a setting that enables their faith to develop and grow.

At Catholic Cathedral College our faith is central to all that we do and teach. We recognise the unique position of Māori as Tangata Whenua and ensure that our actions promote the intentions of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We celebrate the rich diversity within our College. Our College environment is inclusive and our young people are able to feel confident in themselves regardless of their ability, race, socio-economic background, gender or religion. Our rangatahi are incredible and demonstrate compassion, kindness and respect for others.

Collaboration is key and as a community we work together for the wellbeing of all. Through our rich teaching and learning programmes and committed staff, our rangatahi achieve at a high academic level and this is evident through our NCEA results consistently exceeding National averages. Deep learning transpires inside and outside the classroom with a range of extra-curricular opportunities available. Furthermore, our caring staff encourage our rangatahi to be creative, think critically, and to have a clear sense of social justice and the confidence to address injustice.

Our aim is to prepare our rangatahi to be able to step out confidently when they graduate, with a first-rate education that has developed their faith in God, their intellect, and themselves as people, so that they can be happy and successful contributors to the world around them. It is a joy to be part of their learning journey.

If you are looking for a strong values and faith based education for your child I encourage you to make contact with the College. We welcome all inquiries and can provide a guided tour.
